Media Advisory:The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office regrets to announce the passing of retired Sgt. Cheryl Faucette.
Sgt. Faucette was originally hired in June of 1973 as a secretary in the Criminal Investigations Division.In March of 1975, she became one of the first female deputy sheriffs. In 1978, she was transferred toSpecial Services as our agency’s Officer Friendly. On April 1, 1979, she was awarded the rank ofsergeant while serving as the Safety Patrol Coordinator. She was later promoted to the rank of sergeantin 1992, which she held until her retirement on September 26, 2002.During her tenure at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Cheryl Faucette served in the CrimePrevention Unit, in the Uniform Patrol Division as the Administrative Sergeant, as well as being theOfficer in Charge of the Safety Patrol. There are more than 100 letters of appreciation in Sgt. Faucette’sfile. These were received from citizens, parents, teachers, and community organizations.Sgt. Faucette passed away after a long illness on Sunday, May 7, 2006. She will be dearly missed.Funeral arrangements are as follows:Memorial Service – Forest Grove Baptist Church, Thursday, May 11th, 7:00 p.m.Viewing – Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, N.
